Dr Sofia Llahana

Senior Lecturer in Advanced Nursing Practice | London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH)

Dr Sofia Llahana has a joint appointment between City University of London (CuL) and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) as part of her 3-year NIHR Post-doctoral Fellowship. She moved to CuL in 2019 as the Programme Director for the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice; prior to this she worked as a Consultant Nurse in Endocrinology at UCLH, where she continues to maintain an honorary clinical appointment.

Sofia is internationally recognized for her clinical expertise, leadership and has a track record of high impact publications and research grants. Her research interest is in neuroendocrinology, adrenal conditions, male health and reproduction. She is the Lead Editor of the Advanced Practice in Endocrinology Nursing textbook published in 2019 which includes 69 chapters written by an international multidisciplinary team of 118 authors and had more than 100K downloads.

Sofia holds affiliations with several professional associations and patient advocacy groups in the UK and internationally. She was the Founder and past Chair of the Nurse Committee for the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) until 2019 and was awarded the 2021 ESE Special Recognition Award for her substantial contribution to the development of endocrinology nursing in Europe; she was also awarded the 2022 Nikki Kieffer Endocrine Nurse Medal from the Society for Endocrinology
